SUMNER — Pastor Howard MacMullen invites the community to summer events and services at the Congregational Church of East Sumner on Route 219. Sunday services and Summer Sunday School start at 9 a.m. Children join worship for about 20 minutes and then go down for a story activity and garden work. Worship is followed by refreshments and sermon discussion.

On July 14 there will be a chicken pie supper at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $7 per person or $20 for an immediate family of more than three. Raffle items will be available as well as a special raffle for a hand-carved hymnal and church by Bob Perry.

On July 18 and Aug. 15, noontime lunch and bingo will be offered for the admission of a can of fruit or vegetables for the Sumner Food Bank.

The week of July 23-27 will be Vacation Bible School for grades K-6, from 9 a.m. to noon. The youth group from the Spotsylvania, Va., Presbyterian Church will assist with the lessons, games and activities as well as with helping local homeowners with yard work and house projects.
