NEW SHARON — Frederick A. Smith, 72, passed away July 9, at his home in New Sharon.
He was born March 14, 1940, in Port Chester, N.Y., the son of Phillip and Marion Smith of Anderson Hill Road in Purchase, N.Y. Fred attended school in Purchase, N.Y., where he was passionate about wrestling.
Fred was married to Judith Cleaver on July 16, 1961, in Scarsdale, N.Y. He worked for the family fence business, Blind Brook Fence, for many years before moving to Connecticut, with his wife and their two children, Robert and Carolyn.
He left the fence industry to drive a tractor trailer and his work took him all over the country. He relocated to Maine to be with his mother and sisters. Fred was remarried in Oct. 17, 1987, in Farmington, to Mary Singletary. They had a son, Christopher.
Fred enjoyed fishing and boating. He was known for his woodworking abilities. Most of all, he loved people and conversation.
Fred is survived by his two sisters, Jeannette Palumbaro and Susan Collins; his three children, Robert Smith, Carolyn Smith Bryant and Christopher Smith; his nieces and nephews, Jeffrey Smith, Jay Smith, Jamie Smith, Jeanine Smith, Sean Collins, Randy Collins and Courtney Lambert; his grandchildren, Andrew Smith, Liam Smith, Olivia Smith, Thaddeus Bryant and Alexis Smith.
