Maine-ly Harmony yard sale

PALERMO —  Maine-ly Harmony women’s a cappella barbershop chorus will hold its annual super yard sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 21, at Hill Gardens, Route 3.

The sale will feature the goods from 30 households. Plants, books and unexpected treasures await the bargain-hunter. Barbershop harmony will again fill the air and the Harmony Cafe will be serving hot dogs, home-baked goods and beverages.

Maine-ly Harmony is a nonprofit organization that rehearses Wednesday evenings at Togus VA and regularly does benefit performances throughout the community. For more information on the yard sale, becoming a member or booking a performance, call Donna at 582-5523 or Linda at 993-2246.

Dunphy family to be topic

STRATTON — On Sunday, July 22, The Dead River Area Historical Society will feature “The Dunphys of Dead River Plantation: the descendants of Alvah Dunphy,” hosted by Betty Jane Dunphy Kempton of Embden.

Kempton worked many years hand writing the Dunphy family genealogy and presented a copy to the museum, which was added to the collection of native family histories. She will also share the many stories told to her by her dad and other family members.

The Historical Society is open every weekend throughout July and August from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Displays include a collection of old carpentry and logging tools, china, glass, church organ, furniture from native families, a complete schoolroom, a memorial room to the “lost” towns of Flagstaff and Dead River, the lineage of several native families and a host of memorabilia from native homesteads.

Rec Dept. barbecue, concert

WILTON — The Wilton Recreation Department will host a barbecue and concert from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 22, at Kineowatha Park.

Hamburgers, hot dogs, pulled pork with sides will be on the menu. Cost is $5 per plate for 10 and up, $3 for under 10. Includes one meat choice, two sides, watermelon and a drink. Add another meat choice for $2.

Onboard Six along with an amateur hour for those who love to sing and play will be our music.
