I am writing to allay the fears of Tony Nazar (letter, July 19) and other Mainers who fear the state is the laughingstock of the nation due to remarks made by Gov. Paul LePage.
Numerous friends of mine from New York, New Jersey and Florida have told me how lucky I am to have a governor who speaks his mind honestly and doesn’t hide behind the usual political rhetoric of lies and evasion.
I agree.
It is even more alarming, however, coming from someone who appears to be a staunch Democrat. Nazar should feel relieved that it is only this nation he feels is laughing at us and not the entire world, as is the case with the current president, vice president and former House Majority Leader, Nancy Pelosi.
Remember her jaw-dropping statement, “Let’s pass the health care law so we can see what is in it”? Or Obama’s recent speech in which he stated “You didn’t build it. You didn’t make it” directed to small business owners, inferring that it was the government that should get the credit for any success they achieved.
And how about Joe Biden? That man cannot open his mouth without putting his foot in it. Remember “This is a big f…. deal” and too many to count idiotic statements?
I could go on forever, but I think everyone gets the point.
Comparing the IRS with the Gestapo was only a way to emphasize a point, so get over it.
Keep it up, Gov. LePage.
