LIVERMORE — Laura Howell was selected the winner of the $1,000 Pollard Scholarship on Monday from a random drawing of eligible applicants from Livermore.
There were 13 applications, administrative assistant Kurt Schaub said Tuesday.
“Laura is entering her senior year at Mount Holyoke College” he said. The campus is in South Hadley, Mass.
Howell is the daughter of Jef and Cathi Howell.
In other business, highway foreman Roger Ferland reported to selectpersons that the three roads scheduled for repaving work — remaining portion of Norlands Road, Richmond Hill Road and a portion of Round Pond Road — will have pavement ground Thursday, Schaub said.
The crew will have 1½ to 2 weeks to complete scheduled improvements prior to paving. Those improvements are mainly on Richmond Hill, which will have 1,200 yards of gravel hauled in and placed on top of fabric, to assist drainage and prevent heaving, Schaub said.
“Additional drainage and gravel work will be done on Norlands Road,” he said.
The board unanimously approved hiring a wheeler dump truck with driver to assist in hauling on Richmond Hill.
Schaub said the town has contracted with Kachnovich Land Surveying to survey the town’s Memorial Forest. Voters had approved at town meeting to use the veteran’s exemption reimbursement from the state to pay for the bulk of the survey. Work is expected to begin shortly.
Schaub also reported that he plans to begin work on developing a town website this week.
“This process will consist of developing a list of items we want the site to contain,” he said. Those could include lists of municipal officers, services, calendar, minutes, agendas, contact information, helpful links and more, as well as particular requirements including the site be easy to update from the Town Office.
Once those lists are complete, they will begin the process of interviewing and selecting a vendor, Schaub said.
He also informed selectpersons that notices of impending property tax liens will be mailed Thursday. As of Monday, 175 notices will be mailed, representing $140,000 in unpaid 2012 real estate taxes. Last year, 187 notices were mailed for $158,000 still due, he said.
