LEWISTON — Sheridan Richards, 72, of New Sharon, died peacefully at Central Maine Medical Center, Friday, July 27, surrounded by family and friends.
Sheridan was born Nov. 4, 1939, in Strong, the son of Ross Edmund and Ruth Marion (Stinchfield) Richards. While growing up on the family farm, he attended the local schools and graduated from Strong High School in 1958. After graduating from Southern Maine Technical School in South Portland, where he trained for two years in the machinist trade, he married Deanne Elizabeth Stevens on Jan. 26, 1963, at the Strong Methodist Church.
To this couple were born four children, Ross Stockton, Robert Stevens, Sarah Ruth and Susannah Rosealie Richards. Over the years, Sheridan worked as a machinist and toolmaker for Chapman’s in Old Town, Ness Inc. In Rochester, N.Y., Forster Manufacturing Co. in Dryden and Perkins Machine Shop in Madison.
Among his interests were the Sandy River and Rangeley Lakes Narrow Gauge Railroad group in Phillips; being an avid follower of family genealogy and local history; as well as being a member of the Davis Masonic Lodge in Strong.
He is survived by his brothers, Mark W. Richards and Jordan A. Richards and wife, Celine; his half brother, John Cox and companion, Elaine Stevens; his stepsister, Sandra Starbird and husband, Ted Dyke; his stepbrother, Bertron Cox and wife, Gail; his sisters-in-law, Carla W. Richards, Brenda Richards and husband, Stanley Tilton and Margaret Philippon and husband, George; uncle, Carl Stinchfield and wife, Jessie; aunt, Barbara Estes; three grandchildren, Angela Davies, Deanna and Adelle Richards; nine nieces and nephews; and many cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Deanne; his children, Ross and Susannah Richards; his brother, Boyd Richards; and his stepfather, Cecil Cox.
