I was disappointed to read the strong and, I believe, unjust criticism of Patriot Renewables, “Beware the lies from big wind” by Norman Mitchell (July 30).

I attended the hearings in Woodstock when the proposal for the wind mills on Spruce Mountain was explained to citizens and opened for questions and discussion. In my opinion, the people representing Patriot Renewables were well prepared, professional, courteous and knowledgeable. I was impressed.

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” — I enjoy seeing the wind mills turning. It gives me a feeling of pride that my town is supporting an environmentally clean source of energy.

I am worried about the future of our planet because of the tons of carbon and other pollutants that are poured into the atmosphere every day. Although there are still those who deny that climate change is occurring, I believe it is happening.

The company is not taking its profits to the Cayman Islands. It is investing in the town. The $2,000 donation to the Lakes Association will definitely help in the effort to remove milfoil from Shagg Pond. The donation to the school will help keep it open, plus there is the $5,000 scholarship fund. An added plus for citizens of Woodstock? Our taxes are lower.

I believe company officials said there are no other mountains in Woodstock that are appropriate for wind mills. Too bad. I’d like to see more of them.
