FARMINGTON — A large yard and bake sale Saturday offers a variety of items to help raise funds for replacing the heating system at Henderson Memorial Baptist Church.
The sale takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, on the front lawn of the church at Main and Academy streets.
In case of rain, the sale will be held in the church basement and continue outside next Saturday, Aug. 18, if necessary, organizer Jo Bizier said.
When the church’s old steam boiler ceased to function in April, the congregation voted to replace it with a wood pellet boiler.
This sale and other fundraising efforts are under way to pay for it.
Items for the sale include furniture, a file cabinet, clothing for all ages, books and puzzles, small appliances, a set of Noritake china (service for 12), Christmas decorations, and plenty of items for a dime, quarter or free.
At the same time, Baptist Blue Ribbon cooking, homemade foods, including cookies, bars and pies will be sold.
The trustees of the church also have a carved pine bear to sell, Chairman Al McDaniel said.
Standing about 4 feet tall and holding a sign that can be changed, the bear was given to the church in exchange for some wood from two large trees which the church cut on the front lawn this summer. The board is selling it for $400, he said.
