AUBURN — The Auburn Recreation Department is pleased to be joining the Mid Coast Middle School Football League where we will compete against teams from Turner, Bath, Oxford Hills, Brunswick, Mt. Ararat, Lewiston, Lincoln County, Gardiner, and Medomak.
Varsity and Junior Varsity squads will be created and will have a complete game schedule. While sportsmanship, physical fitness, participation and recreation are emphasized, the league competition is spirited and exciting.
Equipment Day is Thursday, August 9 at 5:30 p.m. at Auburn Rec Department. Practices begin the week of August 13.
Participants must show proof of having passed a sports physical within two years of the start of this season.
By MCMSFL rules, only players living in Auburn are eligible for this program. A player is not eligible if they turn 15 prior to August 1, 2012.

Arnold Dugmore Memorial Trap Shooting Clinic
HARRISON — The Western Maine Fish & Game Club will be holding its 5th annual Arnold Dugmore Memorial Trap Shooting Clinic on Sunday, August 19 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. This clinic is to introduce people to the sport of shooting trap. It is held in honor of Arnold Dugmore, who was very active with our trap shooting activities, prior to his death.
This clinic is open to the public. Children between 10 and 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. We do not charge beginners for this clinic.
Food and drink will also be available. You may bring your own shotgun or use one of the clubs 12-gauge shotguns. Ammunition will be provided. Shooters will be required to wear safety equipment (hearing protection and safety glasses). You may bring your own or use what is provided.
Wilton Fish & Game Field Day
WILTON — Wilton Fish & Game will hold its annual field day on Sunday, Sept. 16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
There will be Trap, Archery, Cowboy Shoot and Shooting Gallery activities. Eye and ear protection are required. Lunch will be provided by youth league. For more information, call 645-4867.
17th Annual Rotary Club of Bethel Golf Challenge
BETHEL– The Bethel Rotary Club will hold its 17th Annual Golf Challenge on Monday, August 27 at The Bethel Inn and Country Club. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. This is a fun event open to everyone.
The challenge is scramble format, which provides an opportunity for each player to contribute regardless of playing ability. Players may sign up individually or as team. The cost is $85 per player and includes a riding cart.
The annual golf challenge is a major fundraiser of the Bethel Rotary Club. Proceeds are used to fund scholarships to area students, donations to local organizations, senior citizen events, holiday food baskets, international projects and more. The golf challenge provides the opportunity for golfers to enjoy a day on the course while making an important contribution to much needed programs which Rotary members devote their efforts toward.
In addition to the participation by individual players, the continuing support of sponsors makes this annual event possible. Once again, Norway Savings Bank is the Title Sponsor of the event, and Northeast Bank is sponsoring the tournament luncheon. There are also other sponsorship opportunities, including Major Sponsor at $650, Team Sponsors at $450, Rotary Teams at $340 (all must be Rotarians), Hole-In-One Sponsors at $250, and Tee Sponsors for $125. This is an excellent way for area businesses to support the community while promoting their products and services.
Highlights of the day include: 18-hole four-ball scramble format; Team entry into all activities; Hole-in-One Contest on all Par 3’s; Long Drive prizes (men’s and women’s divisions); Door prizes, giveaways, raffles; Riding carts for all players; Over $1,000 in prizes for the top men’s and top women’s teams; Buffet Lunch; and special overnight lodging packages at The Bethel Inn Resort for either the night before or the night of the tournament from $99/room with breakfast.
