LITCHFIELD — The Blistered Fingers Bluegrass Festival, with its signature “welcome home” country atmosphere, will be held Aug. 23-26 at the fairgrounds at 30 Plains Road.
Scheduled to perform are Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out of Georgia, on Saturday; Karl Shiflett & Big Country of Texas, Thursday and Friday; The James King Band of Virginia, Friday, Saturday and Sunday; The Moron Brothers of Kentucky, Friday and Saturday; and Junior Sisk & Ramblers Choice of Virginia, Thursday and Friday.
Also: Remington Ryde of Pennsylvania, Thursday and Friday; Acoustic Blue of Massachusetts, Friday, Saturday and Sunday; Wilf Clark & Misty Mountaineers of Maine, Friday, Saturday and Sunday; Crossover of Connecticut, Saturday and Sunday; Wyld Blue Yonder of Maine, Friday; and Robinson Gospel Sing Along & Jam of Massachusetts, Sunday.
The hosting Blistered Fingers band of Central Maine will play its mix of original material, soulful ballads and hard-driving traditional bluegrass on Saturday.
Again this year, the Blistered Fingers and the Bluegrass Music Association of Maine have teamed up to present the Blistered Fingers Kids Academy, a free, relaxed, informative music program for children ages 8-18. Students must bring their own instruments and commit to the three-day program.
Gates will open at 8 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20. Weekend tickets covering four days of music and camping from 8 a.m. Thursday to 1:30 p.m. Sunday are $75. Other tickets, available at the gate: Thursday only, $15; Friday only, $25/after 5 p.m., $20; Saturday only, $25/after 5 p.m., $20; Sunday only, $10; children 12 and younger, free with paying adult; dogs, $10; power, $20 for entire stay. The Litchfield Fairgrounds Committee will serve hot meals in the cafe, and there will be several vendors on the grounds.
The Bluegrass Festival, with its sounds of banjos, fiddles and high, lonesome harmonies, has taken place every June and August since 1991.
