LEEDS — Phyllis E. Buzzell, 86, a resident of Plains Road, Leeds, died early Thursday, Aug. 16, at her home.
She was born in Leeds, April 17, 1926, the daughter of Merton H. and Claribel Curtis Thurlow Burnham. Phyllis attended Leeds and Monmouth schools, receiving her GED from Leavitt High school in 1986; Phyllis and her grandson, Richard Ryan Jr. marched in together to receive their diplomas.
On June 5, 1946, in Monmouth, Phyllis and Harold W. Buzzell were married; Harold passed away in 2000. She worked at home raising seven children; and also found time to work at Central Maine Medical Center as a CNA, at Chick Orchards packing apples and at Livermore Shoe.
Phyllis enjoyed reading, needlepoint, camping, playing the guitar; she loved music and spending time with her family and her cat Princess.
One of the greatest memories that Phyllis had was the three-month long trip to Alaska that she and Harold took in 1998. Phyllis was a member of the Leeds Community Church, where she had served as an elder and a deacon, a member of Androscoggin Grange No. 8 and the Sunshine Society.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Gary W. and Joy Buzzell of Greene, Mary J. and Richard Ryan Sr. of Carroll Plantation, Bradley A. and Louise Buzzell of Livermore, Raymond I. Buzzell of Livermore, Merton H. and Carol Buzzell of Greene, Diane E. and Roland Guimond of Leeds and Donna E. and Dale Holt of Leeds; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and many nieces.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Harold; and her sister, Ethelyn Tripp.
The family would like to thank Androscoggin Hospice and Doreen, Cindy, Kathy and Keith for the wonderful care that their mom received.
