Rumford Riders meet today
RUMFORD — The new Rumford Riders ATV Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27, upstairs at Sam’s. Supper will be served before the meeting. Everyone is welcome.
Horseshoe tournament
FARMINGTON — The sixth annual Donn Barker Memorial Horseshoe Tournament will be held Saturday, Sept. 1, at the Farmington Elks Lodge, School Street.
Registration is $10 per person. Sign up will start at 10 a.m. Team drawings will be at 10:30 a.m. The games start at 11 a.m.
Lunch will be catered. T-shirts will be available for purchase and there will be a 50/50 raffle. Proceeds will benefit the Elk’s Lodge Backyard Funds.

Community breakfast Sept. 1
KINGFIELD — A community all-you-can-eat breakfast is being offered Saturday, Sept. 1, from 7:30 to 10 a.m. at the Kingfield United Methodist Church on High Street.
The menu will include homemade sausage gravy with biscuits, pancakes, French toast, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, home-fries, muffins, coffee and juice. The cost is $5 per person. A discounted rate is available for children.

Clothing center open on Sept. 1
HARTFORD — The Hartford Community Church Clothing Center will be open on Saturdays, Sept. 1 and 15, from 9 to 11 a.m. The Clothing Center is directly opposite the Hartford Community Church.
World Fair meeting Sept. 16
WATERFORD — The Waterford World’s Fair annual meeting has been changed to Sept 16, one week later than usual, and will be held at the fairgrounds, 36 Green Road, at 2 p.m. in the dance hall.
A vote will be taken for three directors and the officers for the upcoming year will be elected.
The last two dances for the summer will be held Sept. 1 and Sept. 15. The Country Ridge Riders will perform Sept. 1 and the Rockin Roadrunners will perform Sept. 15. Start time is 8 p.m., the charge is $10 per person and both will be BYOB. For information call Lisa Scribner at 890-7669.
Socrates Cafe topic: Despair
WATERFORD — A Socrates Cafe gathering will be held at the Waterford Library on Monday, Sept. 10, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The group offers a forum to discuss current topics and ideas in a warm, friendly atmosphere, where divergent views will be welcome.
The topic will be “Despair: A Growing Phenomenon. How Do We Deal With It?” Connie Allen will be the moderator.
Due to the Labor Day holiday the meeting in September is postponed from the regular practice of meeting on the first Monday of each month.

Thrift Shoppe sale Sept. 4, 8
RANGELEY — Church of the Good Shepherd Thrift Shoppe sale will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, and Saturday, Sept. 8, at 2614 Main St.
Clothing will be cleared out to make room for incoming items. Ladies blouses, slacks, men’s shirts, pants and all tees will be 50 cents. Jackets and coats will be half price. Household items remain as marked.
Clean clothing and small household items are welcomed. They may be dropped off during open hours or set by the coat rack near the Good Shepherd Undercroft side entrance.
