Emile Seidel, ex-mayor of Milwaukee and vice-presidential candidate on the Socialist ticket, spoke in Auburn Hall last evening at a rally which was attended by between 450 and 500 people. The rally was by far the most enthusiastic and largely attended Socialist rally held in Auburn for years. Although Mr. Seidel spoke for nearly two hours, very few people left the hall and the audience followed him very attentively applauding generously at intervals. Mr. Seidel, not a forcible speaker, looks his audience in the face and time after time repeated, “Do you understand me?”

The staff at the Lewiston Public Library became frustrated when they were not able to find books, according to Ron Speer, library director, so a security system has been installed. Most of the books in the library have an electronic target in them, said Speer, and if a patron walks through the gates at the door without having the book desensitized at the desk, an alarm will go off. Speer said the library had been losing 1,000 books a year. At $17 for each book, the system will pay for itself in nine months, Speer said.
