Lewiston and Auburn Notes. The first appearance last evening in front of the Novelty Cloak Store of the new street light was a “novelty.” Four lights are suspended and give a very brilliant light. The large globes are frosted and thus the light is mellow.
The annual corn roast of the Ariel Club will be held at “Gazola Park” Sept. 22. The destination is not divulged yet but the committee promises something different than ever before.

Lewiston’s Ward Seven Alderman, Ralph O. Labbe, today found himself involved in an argument with the Public works Department over the removal of a bush on an Irwin St. property owner’s lawn. The bush is located on city property in the path of a road-widening project. A shovel operator refused to pull out the small tree, citing standing orders from the PWD.  Labbe said he felt it would be a waste of money for the city to have to send a crew of men to the area later to remove the bush in order that the remaining 15-feet of road could be prepared.

Lewiston city councilors are expected to vote Tuesday on a controversial rezoning at Lisbon and Dyer roads that would allow the construction of a $2 million warehouse and office complex. Joseph Cronin, president of Federal Distributors Inc., has requested the rezoning of roughly 25 acres to accommodate a new building for his wholesale wine and beer business. The rezoning has brought protests from residents of Dyer Road, but an agreement has been reached. If the rezoning from agriculture to commercial land is approved, Cronin must provide buffer strips at the rear of his 50-acre parcel, and he must also set aside land for conservation.
