MONMOUTH — Theater at Monmouth will open the doors to Helen Melledy Hall on Saturday, Sept. 8, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., in support of the Monmouth Lions Club’s inaugural community barbecue.
Proceeds from the fundraiser will support the club’s activities in the community, including scholarships, Thanksgiving Dinner, Meals on Wheels, Adopt-a-Highway, and support for residents with low vision and hearing loss.
Requested minimum donation for the fundraiser is $20 for a family of four, $10 for adults (ages 13 and up); children under 13, free. Tickets are available at the Town Office, TAM and the General Store for cash sales only. For more information, call 933-2211 or 933-5006.
Kicking off the open house will be Maine humorist Gary Crocker, who takes his homespun brand of comedy nationally and internationally.
Lion’s Club members will prepare a menu of hamburgers, hotdogs, brats, coleslaw, potato salad and cold beverages. There will also be a bake sale.
Dennis Price will emcee the “Monmouth’s Got Talent” show from 1 to 3 p.m. To register, call 933-9999.
Children will be able to check out the fire trucks at the fire station and police officers will also be on hand with child fingerprint kits.
Helen Melledy Hall, formerly the Monmouth Grange and renamed in honor of the beloved 92-year-old community volunteer, has been owned and operated by TAM for more than 20 years.
Located at 775 Main St., it is in the center of the designated downtown area of the Monmouth Downtown Plan. The renovation project, supported through grants from the USDA Rural Development Fund and Communities for Maine’s Future Economic Development program, will be available for community rental when the theater is not in production and will also serve as the region’s emergency shelter.
