LEWISTON — A man wanted for assaulting a child in Massachusetts was arrested by undercover agents Wednesday in downtown Lewiston.
Police say Antonio McKinney, 25, of Fall River, had been living on College Street while detectives in Massachusetts were searching for him in that state.
At about 2 p.m. Wednesday, undercover officers Tyler Michaud and Ryan Rawstron were sent to College Street after police in Fall River asked for assistance from Lewiston police.
Shortly after they arrived, McKinney was spotted walking in the area of College and Sabattus streets, police said. The officers questioned him, confirmed his identity and arrested him on the outstanding warrant. He was taken to the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn.
Police in Massachusetts had been searching for McKinney with a warrant charging him with indecent assault on a child. Few details were available about that charge, though the victim was said to be a child under the age of 14.
It was not known how long McKinney had been staying in Lewiston. Court records show that he was arrested in Lewiston in late 2011 and charged with aggravated assault following an incident on Pleasant Street.
McKinney remained at the Androscoggin County Jail Wednesday night.
