Maine’s governor and legislators have been telling the public that they need to grant businesses tax breaks in order for them to create jobs. Businesses don’t have to use the money saved on taxes to create jobs; they can use it to generate profits or simply sit on it, which they have done according to many studies.

What does encourage job creation is putting more money into the hands of purchasers who buy more products or services. Businesses then have to hire more people to produce more products or services to meet the demand.

I have not been happy with the plans or results of the last Legislature. I will vote to replace Garrett Mason in Senate District 17 with Colleen Quint, a woman I can talk to, who understands the creation of jobs; and for that same reason I will vote for Maurice Castonguay for House District 81.
