Now that voting for the Mexico Recreation Department budget is over, people are asking me if I mind being the loser. I do not consider myself a loser as I presented facts to the people and they chose to go the other way.

I said Mexico taxes will go up, not the 50 cents a month as the recreation department backers said, but much more. When taxes are based on mils, you can never make a statement such as 50 cents a month for everyone. For example, a person with a $25,000 home pays less than a person with a $50,000 home, so you cannot put a single dollar increase for all taxpayers.

The recreation department put up signs everywhere and, I believe, most held false information. There was never a question of anything closing. The recreation department was going to continue as usual, only on a smaller budget and smaller salary for the director if voters had chosen the smaller number.

So, to all the people who voted “yes,” when you get your tax bills, read them and weep.

To all those who said “no,” thank you and we will try again next year.
