Free monthly suppers return
NORWAY — After a short hiatus in August, the monthly free suppers will resume at Second Congregational Church on Friday, Sept. 21, from 5 to 6 p.m.
Menu will be homemade meatloaf dinner with mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, veggies and desserts by Bruce. Started more than a year ago by Deb Ladner and Pam and Bruce Davison, the suppers are self supporting thanks to donations from the community and gifts given in memory of Art Gouin. The suppers are free and open to the public.
Geo-Kids starts Sept. 25
PARIS — Geo-Kids will begin at the Paris Public Library on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 11 a.m. As usual, the group will be meet on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.
The focus for the year will be to explore the United States as a whole and by regions.
Geo-Kids is a multi-age group. Although it is geared for ages 7 to 17, younger children who are able to sit with their parents (or another adult) with sustained attention for approximately an hour, and listen and/or participate, are most welcome. Parents of all ages are encouraged to stay.
For the first meeting, Geo-Kids should be prepared to locate on a U.S. map, a state they have been to, a state they have a connection with or a state they know about.

DUV to meet Sept. 26
STONEHAM — The Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War 1861-1865 Hannah F. Richardson Tent 19 met on Aug. 22 at the Community Room.
The meeting was called to order by Marilyn Jones. Sylvia Grover was appointed patriotic instructor in the absence of Wanda Ryerson, who has recently moved to South Carolina.
The mystery prize was won by Elaine Lagueux.
The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. Sept. 26 at the same location.
Lou Ureneck will speak on his book, “Cabin: Two Brothers, a Dream, and Five Acres in Maine.” The book was written about a cabin built in the West Stoneham part of town.
Chinese auction benefits shelter
PARIS — A Chinese auction will be held Saturday, Sept. 29, at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, to benefit Responsible Pet Care.
Bidding on more than 300 items will run from 5 to 6:30 p.m., with winners drawn at 6:30. Tickets $5, $10 and $20, and also bonus tickets.
Food and refreshments available.
