WINTHROP –The Bailey Public Library will welcome local poet Claire Hersom as the September guest in the Lakes Region Forum. She will speak in the library’s historic Reading Room at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept.22. Hersom is a native Mainer whose latest poetry book, “Drowning: A Poetic Memoir,” was published by Moon Pie Press of Portland.

“Drowning,” a memoir about poverty will be used as a supplemental textbook by the Rockland UMA Campus for Human Services in the fall of 2012. Hersom’s work appears in several poetry journals and anthologies, as well as in Yankee Magazine’s New England Memories series. In 2011, she was nominated for and subsequently awarded an Emerging Artist Grant in Literature from the St. Botolph Club Foundation of Boston.

Her poem “Norman Lee” was awarded first place by the Maine Poets Society as Best Poem about Maine in 2007. Hersom has three grown children and several grandchildren. She lives in Winthrop.
