LEWISTON — Frank Glazer, artist in residence at Bates College, will be the featured speaker at the Great Falls Forum lecture series at noon on Thursday, Sept. 20, in Callahan Hall at the Lewiston Public Library.
Glazer will be presenting a talk titled, “Reminiscences from 90 Years at the Piano.”
Glazer will be reflecting back over his distinguished international career that includes numerous recordings, solo recitals and performances with orchestras and chamber ensembles. Since coming to Bates in 1980 he has become an audience favorite in Lewiston, regularly performing solo concerts and making appearances with the Bates College Orchestra.
According to Olin Arts Center Manager Seth Warner, “What makes Frank truly exceptional is that the time and energy he devotes to his music is equally reflected in the love and effort he puts into the human connections and relationships in his circle, both those at Bates and those that look back over nine decades.”
In June of this year Glazer published his first book, “A Philosophy of Artistic Performance (With Some Practical Suggestions).” The publication provides pianists and other musicians with a set of tools to help them find and evolve their own feelings about the art in music.
Copies of the book will be available for sale at the forum program and Glazer will be conducting a book signing following his talk.
Admission is free to all forum events, and no reservations are required.
Attendees are invited to bring brown-bag lunches, or to take advantage of the forum’s partnership with Guthries cafe and request one of the eatery’s custom-made, gourmet sandwiches or salads to be delivered to the library in advance of the talk. Orders may be placed by calling Guthries at 376-3344.
