Pro Cyclist Tom Danielson Returning to Dempsey Challenge
LEWISTON— Tom Danielson will return to Lewiston for the fourth annual Dempsey Challenge. Danielson took part in a full schedule of event festivities last year, capping the weekend with a 50-mile ride alongside actor and event namesake Patrick Dempsey. Danielson joins fellow pro cyclists Levi Leipheimer, Ted King and paralympian Matt Updike for the Oct. 13-14 event.
Danielson, 34, rides for UCI ProTour team Garmin-Sharp. He recently rode to his second consecutive third place finish in the Amgen Tour of California and a seventh place run in the Tour de Suisse.
Danielson was the top American finisher in the 2011 Tour de France, placing eighth overall in his first attempt on the grueling 2,000 mile course. Danielson was forced to withdraw in the 2012 Tour de France after separating both shoulders along with severe road rash in a stage six crash.
