FARMINGTON — More than $800 in pledges and donations was raised during a game of kickball Saturday at Hippach Field.
The funds, matched by race car driver Jeff Gordon, are used to help find a cure for childhood cancer.
A Farmington police team, Caton’s Crew, won the Kick-It program game, 3-2, in an extra inning against a team organized by Jennifer Chretien of Farmington.
Chretien, an avid fan of NASCAR, learned Gordon was offering to match funds raised on behalf of his foundation’s Kick-It program during September. This month is Childhood Cancer Awareness.
The Kick-It program was started by a 10-year-old cancer patient from Cleveland who wanted to cure cancer by playing kickball. Started in 2009, the program has nationally raised $800,000.
The University Credit Union purchased the balls for the game and Hannaford donated water, Chretien said.
