FARMINGTON — The Western ME ATV Club, Canton Trail Riders, the Mountain View ATV Club and the Brettun’s Wheelers ATV Club are sponsoring the 16th annual ATV Toy Run on Saturday, Sept. 29, rain or shine.
Last year’s event drew 382 riders and 250 ATVs. Last year when all were lined up there was a string of ATVs that was more than 3 1/2 miles long.
Registration will be from 8 to 9:45 a.m. at the end of the Whistle Stop Trail on the Town Farm Road in Farmington. The boys scouts will be selling doughnuts and hot coffee.
The ride will start in West Farmington at the end of the Whistle Stop Trail at 10 a.m. Participants will ride to Wilton and an officer will stop traffic to cross Route 4; all will regroup in the Jay Plaza parking area. A Jay officer will escort the ATVs over the Memorial Bridge to the trail head leading to Canton. There riders will leave their toys with volunteers from the CAP Agency. The ATVs again will head in a single file into the woods to return to Jay.
The riders will continue on to the Jay Plaza, where the Boy Scouts will serve a free barbecue meal at approximately 2 p.m. Santa will also be making a special appearance.
Everyone who participates must get a meal ticket and register. Donations include gift certificates for local businesses, a helmet, picture portrait sitting, two-night stay at Breezy Acres, free night at Bass Hill Bed-N-Breakfast, gun rack, interior and exterior vehicle cleaning, oil change, shirts, water bottles, sleeping bags, hair certificates and a toy tractor trailer with sounds.
For the community members have raised more than $50,000 consisting of toys and cash donations throughout the years. The event is possible only with the help of the many volunteers, businesses who contributed merchandise, vendors and all of the ATV riders. Vendors interested in setting up a display booth are asked to contact one of the planners.
