Marine Corps League meeting
AUBURN — The Central Maine Detachment, Marine Corps League 810, will hold its regular meeting Thursday, Sept. 27, at American Legion Post 31, Washington Street.
Voting on a special donation for veterans will take place. All Marine and FMF Corpsmen are welcome.

TOPS open house Oct. 1
LEWISTON — TOPS ME Chapter 0270 will host an open house on Monday, Oct. 1, in the meeting room at The First Assembly of God Church, 70 Hogan Road.
Take off Pounds Sensibly is a support group which promotes healthy eating, portion control and exercise when possible for adults and teens. The weigh-in begins at 5:30 to 6:20 and the program will begin at 6:30 to 7:30.
The chapter meets every Monday night, provides support and encouragement. Current members follow individual programs not only to control weight loss but to also control high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes and other health issues.

Tiger Sharks Swim Club
LEWISTON — The YWCA is proud to announce the arrival of the new Tiger Sharks Swim Club for boys and girls ages 7 to 14.
This is a great opportunity for kids that love to swim and are interested in a more competitive environment. They will learn the fundamentals of competitive strokes and being part of a team in a positive and encouraging environment. Practices will focus on stroke development and technique, breathing techniques, turns, starts and endurance. Each club member will receive a team logo swim cap and will compete in at least two swim meets.

AUBURN — Pathways, Inc. will hold its 38th Annual Meeting at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, at 589 Minot Ave. Everyone is welcome. Refreshments will be served.
Winter running to be topic
LEWISTON — Bruce Hamilton-Dick, orthopaedic surgeon with St. Mary’s Center for Orthopaedics, will give a free winter running presentation from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, in the Lepage Large Conference Room, 99 Campus Ave.
Hamilton-Dick will speak about how to condition your body to run in cold weather and using proper body mechanics to avoid injury. He has an extensive background in sports medicine, including work with the Boston Red Sox and semi-professional hockey teams.
Hamilton-Dick will be joined by Chris Stanley from Lamey Wellehan, who will provide expertise about finding the right fit and the right shoe for winter running.

Bird walkers travel to Litchfield
LEWISTON — The Stanton Bird Club of Lewiston and Auburn will host the third of seven twice-monthly bird walks on Wednesday, Oct. 3. All walks are from 8 to 11 a.m., and are free and open to all.
Leaders Stan and Joan DeOrsey ask participants to meet at 8 a.m. at the Promenade Mall parking lot, near Staples, 855 Lisbon St. All will travel to the Smalls’ Farm, Litchfield, to see fall migrants. The leaders will identify and comment on birds seen and heard.
Each walk is approximately two miles long, on an even and dry surface. The leaders suggest that participants bring binoculars and dress in layers to be flexible for the weather. They will hold the walk even if it is drizzling, but if steady rain at 7 a.m. is projected to continue to 10 a.m., the walk is canceled. Animal blessings at Basilica
LEWISTON — Prince of Peace Parish invites all to the Blessing of Animals at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul.
All are welcome to bring their pets, large and small, to the Basilica front lawn.
Chinese auction for Dempsey Ctr.
PARIS — A Chinese auction to benefit the Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing will be held Friday, Oct. 5, at the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School cafeteria. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., auction begins at 7.
There will also be a 50/50 raffle, a $1 ticket table including two overnight getaways, gift certificates and much more.
A bake sale to benefit the center will also be offering up treats throughout the evening.
