In the growth of this country, most of the immigrants kept their culture to themselves unless an introduction was requested. They came to this country to better themselves and adopted this country’s culture, traditions and way of life. They did not try to push their culture onto others. They did not come here to change the way of life that was already here.
In the past, most legal immigrants became an asset, not a liability or a drain on the nation’s generosity. They worked hard and did not ask for handouts. They made a new, better life for themselves and their children in their new country.
This is a nation of caring people who accept others, whomever they are and all colors and creeds. President John F. Kennedy had it right when he said, “Ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country.”
