PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Gregory Sawyer, M.D., son of Julie and Alan Sawyer of East Wilton and 1999 graduate of Mt. Blue High School in Farmington, graduated from his five-year orthopaedic residency at the Brown University Program in Orthopaedics/Rhode Island Hospital on June 22.

He was honored as a recipient of the Haffenreffer House Staff Excellence Award. He graduated summa cum laude from Colby College in Waterville in 2003 and Dartmouth Medical School in Hanover, N.H., in 2007.

He is currently a trauma fellow at Rhode Island Hospital and has accepted a sports medicine fellowship at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colo., in 2013-14. Dr. Sawyer and his wife, Annah, live in Providence.

BOSTON — Berklee College of Music has announced that Eleanor Buckland of Farmington has earned placement on the dean’s list for the spring semester of the 2012 academic year.

SAVANNAH, Ga. — Nathaniel Lemieux of Sabattus recently graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Lemieux earned a BFA degree in interactive design and game development.

SELINSGROVE, Pa.— Ceara Teixeira of Lewiston was named an Academic All-American from the Men’s Division II by the American Collegiate Hockey Association for the 2011–12 season at Susquehanna University. Susquehanna’s club team plays in the Great Northeast Collegiate Hockey Conference.

Academic All-Americans, who are nominated by their coaches, must be juniors or seniors and have a minimum overall GPA of 3.2. Coach Drew Wright’s additional criteria were sportsmanship, leadership, a strong work ethic and a significant contribution to the competitive success of the team.

Females are not prohibited from playing in the men’s league, according to Wright. He described Teixeira, a four-year defense player, as a courageous competitor with exceptional skating skills.

“Ceara is a wonderful young lady and a very talented player who earned the respect of not only her teammates and coaches, but also that of players and coaches from around the league,” Wright said.

Teixeira, a graphic design major, graduated from Susquehanna in the spring of 2012. She is a 2008 graduate of St. Dominic Regional High School and the daughter of Randall and Lisa Teixeira.

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – George Foster of Rideout Avenue, Lewiston, has been named to the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Academy of Culinary Arts dean’s recognition list for academic excellence for the summer 2012 semester.

Foster, the son of Aaron Foster and Pamela Newton, is a 2007 graduate of Lewiston High School.
