LEWISTON — More than 150 works by area artists illustrating a theme of hope, healing and survival. Live performances by local musicians and groups. Lewiston-Auburn restaurants and businesses offering special promotions.

These are all part of the inaugural Dempsey Challenge Community Celebration to take place from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, the day before the Dempsey Challenge run/walk and cycling events.

Artists particpating in the celebration, a collaboration of Art Walk Lewiston Auburn, L/A Arts and Captive Elements Art House, are Terry Grasse, Helen Warren, Penny Hood, Scott Ainsworth, Jane Pronovost, Angie Blevins, Laura Tasheiko, Matthew Barter, Linda Nichos Phillips, Isaac Marston, Joanna Reese, June Roberts, Lois Hill, Herenya Wiley and Corey LaFlamme.

Also, Priscilla Cross, Maria Castellano-Usery, Anne Breau, Erika Jordan, Darylann Leonard, Tegan Lake, Stephanie Berry, Jeffrey Jacques, Tookie Bright, Anne Labbe, Don Bernard, Dinah Harris, Pat Collins, Louella Hood, Megan Patry, Mary Schmaling-Kearns, Nel Bernard and Paul Baribault.

Their artwork will be displayed at Captive Elements Art House, L/A Arts, the Lewiston Public Library, Forage Market, the Lamey Wellehan Building, Rainbow Bikes, The Vault and Androscoggin Bank, all on Lisbon Street;  the Bates Mill Atrium, 35 Canal St., and She Don’t Like Guthries, 115 Middle St.

Live performances will be given by the Edward Little High School debate team, Youth Orchestra of Lewiston Auburn, The Band Apollo, Bryan Laurier, Carolyn Currie, Kristen Short, Pan Fried Steel, Felix Weatherbee, Temple Rocks, Barbara Oliver & Mark Nordberg and Broken 51. 

Several Lewiston-Auburn restaurants and businesses will offer special promotions and/or food and beverage tastings. A “cash mob” will meet at 5 p.m. in Journal Alley. And, L/A Magazine will be open to host the Peloton Project welcome party. The Peloton Project is a documentary film that will follow the lives of nearly 40 cyclists as they prepare to take on this year’s Cancervive Peloton Project. To top off the celebration, an official “after-party” will be held at Gritty McDuff’s at 68 Main St., Auburn, with live music by the Jason Spooner Trio until midnight.
