GORHAM — Gertrude P. Taylor, 93, of New Portland Road and formerly of Gray, where she owned “the purple house” died Friday, Oct. 5, at Gorham House, where she had resided the past several years.
She was born July 8, 1919, in Brighton, Mass., and attended Massachusetts and Gorham schools. For many years, she worked as a supervisor for Ellis Paperboard. At the time of her retirement, she worked for Fairchild National Semi-Conductor in South Portland.
Mrs. Taylor was a member of White Rock Free Baptist Church, White Rock Grange, both in Gorham and the Gray Senior Citizens. Gertrude was one of the ladies that started and continued to work for the hot lunch program at White Rock School (now known as White Rock Community Club). Gertrude and her late husband, George, loved to travel with their dear friends, Edna and Roger Gagnon. They went on many great trips together.
Surviving her are a daughter, Audrey A. Doggett and husband, David, of Lewiston; two daughters-in-law, Lucy Taylor of Naples, Fla., and Karen Taylor of Gray; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, George in 1986; her two sons, Neil in 2005 and Paul in 2006; her foster grandson, Edward W. Gramlich; her granddaughter, Kimberly Taylor; and her great-granddaughter, Anna Belle Taylor.
Mrs. Taylor’s family would like to thank the staff at Gorham House for their compassionate and loving care of Gertrude these last several years.
