TURNER — The final public supper of the season, sponsored by North Turner Union Presbyterian Church, as always will mark the end of the season which in this rural agricultural community means harvest. So with turkeys, mashed potatoes, locally-grown vegetables and homemade pies, the annual Harvest Supper will be held on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the GAR Hall.
On the menu is traditional Thanksgiving fare as we all give thanks for the harvest not only of crops but also of friends and community. The Turner community of friends and neighbors has proved to be a very multi-faceted group of blessings for the congregation of the church and members would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every person who has supported the church, the Clothing Center and the Turner Food Bank with donations, hard work, their presence and smiles.
The final bids on the handmade quilt will be taken during this supper and the winner announced at its conclusion. The quilt has been on display throughout the supper season beginning at Mud Supper in March and silent bids have been taken since that time.
The church would like to remind everyone of the two remaining concerts in the Fall Music Festival. On Saturday, Oct. 20, the church will be filled with the Christian rock of Greater Purpose.
On Saturday, Dec. 1, the beautiful music of Bryce Libby and pianist Phil House will be featured. The church will be decorated. Libby and House will be featuring some traditional holiday numbers as part of the program. Both concerts begin at 7 p.m. and a goodwill donation is taken at the door. Refreshments will be provided and children are always welcome.
Sunday School has just started for the year and everyone is invited to bring little ones from ages 3 to 12 for a fun-filled hour of stories, activities and life lessons. Church service begins at 9 a.m. and the children have Sunday School shortly after the service begins.
The Community Clothing Center will be closing soon, depending on the weather, since the building is not heated. It will reopen on Wednesday nights beginning at the end of April or first of May, again depending on temperatures.
The Turner Food Bank at the BQMC will continue to be open the fourth Wednesday of each month from 6 to 8 p.m. Those wishing to use the food bank must obtain a use card from the Turner Town Office.
