LEWISTON — The Lewiston Public Library will join libraries across the state by participating in”Snapshot Day 2012 – Libraries Connect People, Community & Jobs” on Thursday, Oct 18.
The library will gather customer comments, photographs and statistics chronicling a typical library day. The results collected at Lewiston Public Library will be added to those of other libraries across Maine to demonstrate the ways that libraries provide invaluable services to Maine citizens every day.
Every day, Maine libraries reach out to thousands of Mainers — students, adults, job-seekers, researchers, entrepreneurs and countless others. Snapshot Day 2012 provides a way to capture the diversity of activities and learning made possible by libraries.
At the Lewiston Public Library, everyone from students to job-seekers, parents to the elderly make use of the library’s services and resources. With the economy in bad shape, people are turning to the library more than ever before.
Users of the Lewiston Public Library are asked to drop by to share their thoughts about the library and participate in some of the day’s activities. At noon, LPL will be hosting a talk by Mohammed Dini, the executive director of the African Diaspora Institute and a leader in the Somali community. This free discussion is part of the ongoing Great Falls Forum. Also taking place that Thursday is the very popular Kids’ Cooking Club at 4 p.m. Reservations for this program are suggested and can be made by calling the Children’s Department at 513-3133.
Snapshot Day 2012 is a project of the Maine State Library, Maine Library Association, the Maine Association of School Libraries and the Lewiston Public Library.
