The crazy whirlwind of public discontent has started again. I firmly believe that Lewiston Mayor Robert Macdonald, esteemed Gov. Paul LePage and Maine House candidate Tim Lajoie have a firm grasp of the true problems facing the state of Maine.

The runaway welfare train is starting to lose some of its gravy and it is rattling the cages of the people who are being forced into developing a work ethic.

Welcome to Life 101.

Maine’s work ethic has gone downhill. The state is no longer admired as producing a strong workforce. The true Maine that a lot of people remember has little to do with today’s version. What Macdonald often refers to when describing “layabouts” includes a broad spectrum of current Mainers. He has been encouraged by many Lewiston residents to keep the pressure on. It all boils down to respect.

Respect must be gained. The thousands of Lewiston residents who worked hard have gained the respect of many. Hearing the reactions of those workers toward today’s new Mainers is certainly a normal reaction and not biased, as many claim. There might be a few bigots in the area, but not many.

I simply want everyone to realize Mainers welcome everyone here who will come with goals and aspirations, and who will work hard. Then they will gain the respect of the older residents.
