DEAR SUN SPOTS: I would like to start a chapter of Newborns in Need in Androscoggin County.
This organization is a 5013C nonprofit that gives essential items such as diapers, wipes, bottles, onesies, booties, sleepers, receiving blankets and washcloths to infants leaving the hospital with nothing but a diaper.
As sad as it is, many infants do not have anything to go home in. Not even a blanket. The causes are many, including house fires where the family has lost everything, to domestic violence where the mother had to leave everything behind.
There are also people who don’t know better, but the bottom line is still that a newborn baby is in need and that is what this organization does. It helps the newborn no matter what the situation.
What I need are volunteers. The organization requires that I have help to make the washcloths, blankets, bonnets, booties and bibs. If you don’t know how to sew, crocheted and knitted blankets and hats are also needed in the winter. If you cannot help in those areas, donations to buy diapers, wipes, onesies, sleepers and bottles are also welcome.
The need is great, and I would like to help these babies. If you can be of help, please email or call me. You can research this organization at www.newbornsinneed.org. — Denise Pettengill, 795-6538, denisepettengill@gmail.com
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Farwell School PTA is holding its 43rd annual Pumpkin Festival on Oct. 21 at Farwell School. We have a goal of raising more than $10,000 this year.
We would like to invite local crafters to rent a craft table in the craft fair area of the festival. This is great exposure for your crafts and a perfect opportunity to sell for the upcoming holidays.
Tables are $30, with $15 for an additional table. For more information please email Heather Bucklin at farwellpumpkinfestival@gmail.com. — Farwell School Pumpkin Festival Committee
DEAR SUN SPOTS: A large number of children visit the Victorian Villa Rehabilitation and Living Center for trick-or-treating on Halloween.
Each year the residents dress up in costume and gather together to pass out candy to the children, which they truly enjoy.
The Activities Department appreciates the generosity of others to assist in making this event successful through donations.
If you are willing to donate small wrapped candy or a small cash donation, please contact the Activities Department at 597-2510, ext. 168. Thank you. — Mitzie Turnbull mitzieturnbull@victorianvilla.net
DEAR SUN SPOTS: In answer to the Oct. 6 letter from G. Leavitt asking if someone had mirrors with rubber straps that fit over truck mirrors for hauling a camper, I have a set that I would be willing to sell for $5. We are in Auburn every two weeks and could meet at a location we decide on in Auburn. If he calls and I’m not home, he can leave a message. — E. Cyr, 778-4874
DEAR SUN SPOTS: My husband has a set of camper mirrors and will sell them for $10, but we don’t know how to get in touch with him. He can call us at 515-0264. — Kathy via email
DEAR SUN SPOTS: For G. Leavitt looking for extended mirrors with rubber straps for hauling a camper, check out Tom Taper Inc. of Richmond, Ind., 800-727-3778 . We got some there several years ago. At that time we paid $15.69 (I’m sure they are more now). They are called XL Clip On Mirror 040402XX79N9. — R. Grover, Mason Township
DEAR SUN SPOTS: A reader was looking for clip-on mirrors. I have a set that are like new, still in the box and can be contacted at 998-4910. — Roger D., rogermd414@hotmail.com
