AUBURN — Zack B. Small, 70, of Leeds, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 7, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, following a short illness, where he was surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Lewiston, April 12, 1942, a son of Walter and Methyl (Trask) Small. Following graduation from Leavitt Institute, Zack completed a four-year correspondence course from Penn State University, where he received his certificate of completion to become a journeyman sprinkler fitter.

He worked for the Local Union 669, until his retirement in 1987. Zack remained an active participant with the union until his passing. On Aug. 14, 1993, he married Patricia Paiton and they made their home in Leeds. Zack was a contributing member in his community, serving 13 years on the Planning Board in Leeds. He was also a past member of the Oddfellows Lodge, Turner Ridge Snowmobile Club, NRA, a member and volunteer of the Sportsman Alliance of Maine, Ducks Unlimited and Nezinscot Valley Rod and Gun Club.

Zack loved all sports and played on the football, basketball and baseball teams at Leavitt Institute. He also enjoyed watching sports on TV and was a dedicated fan of all New England sports teams as well as the New York Giants. Zack was an avid hunter, fisherman, enjoyed four-wheeling and loved the outdoors. Zack also belonged to the Auburn YMCA, where he worked out faithfully.

Zack is survived by his wife, Patricia (Paiton) Small of Leeds; three children, Dan Small and his partner, Anne Clark, of Turner, Kimberly Taylor Mancini and her husband, John, of Portland and Valerie Taylor Plourde and her husband, James, of Wayne; three grandchildren, Ben Small and his wife, Amanda, of Winslow, Danielle Small of Turner and Joseph Mancini of Portland; along with one great-granddaughter, Alyson Small of Winslow; two brothers, Harold Small and his wife, Linda, of Turner and Larry Small and his wife, Claire, of Turner; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Zack was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Methyl Small of Turner.
