On Sept. 27, I received a flier from the Harvey Calden State Senate campaign. It claims John F. Kennedy and Ed Muskie would not approve the Democratic platform because it extends legal and social rights to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and that the right to own firearms is subject to reasonable regulation.

It seems presumptuous of them to speak for men no longer living.

The workers in Maine have taken a beating from the LePage administration. Insult has been added to insult. Rosie the Riveter, Frances Perkins — the murals should come out of the closet.

Sen. John Patrick has been a champion for the working class. He is needed back in Augusta to stand up to LePage and the Republicans. He has been a strong advocate for seniors, veterans, fair taxes, civil, equal and voting rights.

He serves all the people well.
