LIVERMORE FALLS — Prekindergartners tried out the new rock-wall climbing structure Thursday, looking as if they’d done it many times before.
The new playground equipment was installed Saturday. It had been purchased by the Head Start program last year but never installed because there was no money, prekindergarten teacher Kayla Brown said. She rounded up volunteers to help install the equipment.
RSU 73’s prekindergarten program is in the same building as Head Start, the Cedar Street Learning Center, so the playground equipment is shared.
The tar where the heavy plastic, rock wall was to be placed had to be dug up and 9 inches of wood chips spread out. Brown’s father, Dan Brown, called in a friend, contractor Barry Webster, who brought his excavator to dig up the tar and remove the dirt. The two volunteered their time along with Kayla Brown and parents David Irving, Chris Foss and Warren Blais to get the job done.
Webster took away the dirt and pavement. Brown’s father provided the wood chips. The two Browns spread the wood chips around.
