PORTLAND (AP) — Southwest Airlines says it will begin service to the Portland International Jetport beginning next spring.

The Dallas-based airline says service will begin on April 14, a day after it shuts down AirTran service to Portland.

WCSH-TV says Southwest closed on its purchase of AirTran Airways last year. It’s been transitioning its AirTran cities to Southwest and eliminating AirTran service where the two carriers duplicate service.

The Jetport opened its expanded terminal a year ago in hopes of attracting more airlines.
