WILTON — Wilton Day Homemakers met at St. Luke’s Church on Oct. 11, with 14 members and three guests. The thought of the day was, “Life is like a mirror; we get the best results when we smile in it.”
The group received a thank-you card from the food pantry, for their community service project. Members donated seven cans of evaporated milk, 13 cans of pumpkin and five rolls of toilet paper this month for the pantry. Next month members will bring in crackers, either saltine or Ritz. A thank-you was sent to all who sat at the extension booth at the Farmington Fair.
Plans are under way for the craft fair on Oct. 20. Members discussed menus and items for the food table. Eight tables have already sold. Fliers are available for anyone wishing to put them out.
Becky went to the Train the Trainer workshop on Oct. 10 at the Extension Office to learn about Matter of Balance and to teach gluten-free cooking. Oct. 15 we mark the end of the Train the Leaders workshop.
Members will meet on Oct. 24 at the Trinity Methodist Church to make pillowcases for the Franklin County Homemakers community service project. Everyone is asked to bring sewing items, including sewing machine, thread, scissors, one yard of two different fabrics, etc.
The door prize was won by Olive Toothaker.
The program was on national parks. Donna Blucher talked about her bus trip to Monuments and National Parks. Woodrow Wilson set up the first National Park, Yellow Stone. Blucher visited Devils Tower in Wyoming and Mt. Rushmore in the Black Hills. She pointed out that George Washington has a suit and tie and ears, but as time and money were running out the rest of the Presidents did not have suits and Abe Lincoln does not have ears.
There is a Grand Canyon in Yellowstone with waterfalls that are 900 feet deep. Blucher visited the Bryce Canyon where the towers are made of clay. Zim National Park in the Utah Mountains was tranquil and quiet. The landscape at Navajo Tribal Park could have been the background for the old western movies. At bus stops tribal women were selling beaded items.
The next meeting will be Thursday, Nov. 8, at 10 a.m. at St. Luke’s Church on High Street. All are welcome. The group will be making decorations for the Tree of Light.
