As an independent, I choose candidates based on qualifications, not political parties. Former Gov. Angus King is most qualified to represent Maine in the U.S. Senate.
As governor, he reduced the state’s general obligation bond debt by more than $150 million between 1995 and 2003, lowered the sales tax from 6 percent to 5 percent, and established the Maine College Savings Program. He started “Get Real, Get Maine” to promote Maine food and farm products.
His commitment to Maine’s natural resources and Maine businesses resulted in protecting more than 1.6 million acres of public land, and development of the DEP Small Business Program.
In my town, 238 acres of land received grant money from the Outdoor Heritage Fund, established by Gov. King, providing $700,000 per year to recreation and wildlife projects.
As a U.S. senator, Angus King will work for all Mainers, just as he did as governor.
