RUMFORD — Local musicians Jamie Virgin and Gary Petrie, who have been playing together since 2010, will perform as part of Kaleidoscope on Friday, Nov. 2, at 49 Franklin.
Virgin has been writing songs for as long as he can remember. He recorded his first in 2001 at Studio G in Turner with Bruce Goulet. In 2005, he recorded “Don’t You Know” in New York City, which he described as having “that bluesy Southern rock feel, think Lynyrd Skynrd meets Brad Paisley.”
Virgin and Petrie will perform a collection of original songs by Virgin.
Other featured Kaleidoscope artists will be Steve Cornish of Lewiston, known for reading minds; visual artist Liz Murphy, who will start and finish a work of art; and Chris Wing, who will also attend with a fresh canvas and a project to work on throughout the evening.
Kaleidoscope is modeled after renowned magician Jeff McBride’s “Wonderground” of Las Vegas. It brings together performance, visual and other artists for an experience in co-created art, music and play.
On the first Friday of every month at 49 Franklin, artists, magicians, variety performers, dancers, painters, musicians, multimedia artists and poets come together to celebrate and perform.
Kaleidoscope runs from 7 to 10 p.m. in the Mystic Theater at 49 Franklin. The evening is hosted by Scott Grassette, magician, juggler and owner of 49 Franklin. There is no cover charge, but tips for the artists are encouraged.
Virgin and Petrie will also perform at the Friday Night Live event on Nov. 8, 9 and 10, also at 49 Franklin.
