Association Canado-Americaine meets Monday

LEWISTON — “Why Integrating Care Is the Healthy Thing To Do” is the topic of a rescheduled Mini-Medical School educational program postponed because of inclement weather. The program will now be offered from 5:30 to 6:20 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, in the Androscoggin Room at the Auburn Public Library.
Catherine Ryder, executive director of Tri-County Mental Health Services (TCMHS), will be the speaker.
Her presentation will be followed at 6:30 by “Population Health: What Does It Mean for Our Community?” with Heidi Mallis, district field epidemiologist with the Maine Center for Disease Control. Mallis’ presentation was previously scheduled for this time slot.
Ryder has worked for TCMHS for some 20 years, including as director of clinical services in which she developed care models that align with the principles of healthcare reform. She is a licensed clinical professional counselor who holds a master’s degree in counselor education. She is also a nationally certified counselor and an approved clinical supervisor. She has completed a certificate program in primary care behavioral health and recently graduated from the Hanley Leadership Development program for healthcare leaders in Maine.
Mallis, district field epidemiologist with the Maine Center for Disease Control, investigates communicable disease in Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties.
Sponsored by Central Maine Medical Center and the Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute, the Mini-Medical School series is open to the community. A background in science or medicine is not necessary to attend the programs.
The final Mini-Medical School topic will be “The Obesity Epidemic” with bariatric surgeon Dr. Jamie Loggins on Monday, Nov. 12.
The presentations are offered at no charge. Interpreter services are available upon advance request.

Healthy program taking enrollments
LEWISTON — The Healthy Homes Healthy Families partnership is enrolling Lewiston-Auburn residents in its November class. Attendees will learn skills for nutrition, kitchen safety and preventing pests and childhood lead poisoning,. Those who attend will receive free tools to assist with the new skills.
The class will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 7 and 8, at St. Mary’s Nutrition Center, corner of Bates and Walnut streets. The class is free and open to the public.

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Senior Citizens Cribbage League winners at the Lewiston Memorial Armory on Oct. 25 were: first, Gerry Therrien; second, Henry Maheux and Bob Leclair; third, Roberta Greenlaw and Sue Fisher; fourth, Muriel Webber and Pauline Quimby; fifth, Faucher and Don Haley.

Bridge club announces winners
LEWISTON — The Lewiston Bridge Club winners on Oct. 29 at the Lewiston Armory were as follows: first, Rosemarie Goodwin and Mike Quinn; second, Mary Ann Trafton and Luke Merry; third, Jeanine Kivus and David Lock; fourth, Les Buzzell and Paul Sherman; first/second tie in B, Cynthia Bonsey and Sue Kaluzynski with Cynthia and Bill Clifford.
Winners on Oct. 30 were: first, Luke Merry and Mike Quinn; second, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe; third, Marta Clements and Hazel Glazier; fourth, Connie Webster and Rosemarie Goodwin.
Players winning the most master points for October were: first, Luke Merry, 7.28; second, Mike Quinn, 7.26; third, Mary Ann Trafton, 6.43; fourth, David Lock, 6.17; and fifth, Jeanine Kivus, 4.72.
Games are played ever Monday and Tuesday at 9 a.m. in the Seniors’ Room at the Lewiston Armory, 65 Central Ave. The Tuesday, Nov. 6, game will be played at 9 a.m. at Schooner Estates, 200 Stetson Road, Auburn. Election Day voting will take place at the Lewiston Armory.
