DURHAM — An Evening of Jazz Piano featuring Tom Whitehead will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Friends Meeting House 532 Quaker Meetinghouse Road.
The program proceeds will benefit the Durham Friends DYF Youth Group. Admission will be by donation.
Whitehead has played piano since age 4. He was first inspired to play by his parents, Macy and Edie Whitehead, to whom this performance is dedicated. His current style of piano playing is a virtual “musical gumbo” of jazz, swing, stride, New Orleans R & B, blues and boogie woogie.
He wrote and produced his first CD of original music in 2002 and has appeared on other recordings, playing piano, guitar and accordion. He has led ensembles in San Francisco and in Maine.
Whitehead is teaching piano and guitar at the Waynflete School in Portland and at 317 Maine Street Community Music School in Yarmouth.
