DIXFIELD — Residents approved beginning the process to withdraw from RSU 10 by a vote of 695-543. However, they voted down spending the money to acquire the legal and other guidance needed for the lengthy withdrawal process by a vote of 332 yes to 402 no.
An estimated up to $50,000 was needed for such costs.
Leader of the petition that forced the referendum question on the ballot looking into the withdrawal of the town from RSU 10, Jon Holmes, had said that he was primarily interested in taking the steps toward withdrawal if the other towns in the former SAD 21 — Canton, Carthage and Peru — also pulled out of the district.
Some also believe that costs would be lower if the former district operated the schools rather than being a part of the former three-district system.
