FARMINGTON – With all but the Town of Avon reporting results by Wednesday morning, Republican Scott Nichols Sr., 51, of New Sharon will take over as Franklin County sheriff on Jan. 1, 2012.

Nichols was elected Tuesday by county voters, excluding Avon, over current Sheriff Dennis Pike, 74, of Farmington by an unofficial vote of 8,156-7,399. Even with Avon’s vote, Nichols would still come out the winner due to the 757 votes separating the two candidates.
