Results were incomplete Wednesday for the race for Senate District 13.
Republican Rep. James Hamper of Oxford was leading political newcomer Dennise Whitley of Norway 8,229 to 7,576.
Republican Sen. David Hastings of Fryeburg was termed-out of the seat.
Whitley, 72, the former director of government relations for the American Heart Association of Maine, campaigned on the promise of marketing Maine and its strong work ethic to better attract business “that could provide good-paying jobs” through tax incentives, reduced energy costs, streamlined regulations and more controlled health care costs.
Hamper, 57, who has served eight years in the Legislature, campaigned on the promise that he will “continue the course we charted in the 125th Legislature” to reduce regulation, reduce taxes, open Maine’s marketplace to more competition in health insurance and reduce the cost of energy.
Both were Clean Election candidates.
