LIVERMORE — An upgrade of the Transfer Station, designed to allow the town to take bulky waste as of Jan. 1 when the town’s contract with Jay expires, is moving forward.

Until then, townspeople must continue to take their bulky waste to the Jay Transfer Station. The upgrade includes placing wood and bulky waste containers at the station to accept that material.

A fee schedule will be developed for disposal of those items, including sofas, mattresses and construction debris. Next summer, the town will have to get another container in which to place asphalt shingles, Schaub said.

The upgrade calls for using the old Dumpster pit and rear loading dock area of the former building slab at the station.

A new slab is expected to be poured for the project on Friday in the loading dock area for a Dumpster to be placed on, weather permitting, administrative assistant Kurt Schaub said.

Northeast Cutting Services of Manchester cut down two walls that extended beyond the slab on either side of the Dumpster pit Wednesday morning, Schaub said. The cost was $450, which was less than the anticipated $500 to $600.

Livermore Concrete LLC, which was awarded the contract for the slab in October, had recommended the company to do the job.

Concrete barricades were delivered and set last week, and the recycling bins were relocated.

Schaub estimated the entire upgrade would come in under the budgeted amount of $6,000, which is from funds raised and offsets in savings, he said.
