AUBURN — A Lewiston man was arrested Thursday and charged with stealing cash from a drawer at the Hilton Garden Inn.
Walter Grider, 29, was arrested when police tracked him down on Drummond Street after a Hilton employee chased the suspect from the hotel.
Grider was charged with two counts of theft. Police said he was a suspect in a similar heist in late October during which money was stolen from the Hilton.
The theft was reported shortly after noon on Thursday. Police said Grider walked into the hotel and got into a locked drawer containing an unspecified amount of cash.
The hotel employee who chased the suspect gave police a detailed description. A short time later, police officer Eric Bell spotted Grider on Drummond Avenue, questioned him and ultimately arrested him in the theft.
Police said they recovered the stolen cash, which was described as “a small amount of money.”
Grider was being held on $400 bail.
