Veterans Day services around the area will be held Sunday, Nov. 11.
In the Livermore Falls area, veterans will begin services at 8:45 a.m. at the Livermore Falls Memorial Bridge, Jocelyn Mosher-Collins, commander of the American Legion Post 10 in Livermore Falls, said. Traditionally, a wreath is tossed into the Androscoggin River during the ceremony to honor those who served or were lost at sea.
At 9:10 a.m., veterans will hold a ceremony at Brettuns Memorial on Route 4 in Livermore. They will move to the Geneva Hodgkins Memorial Park, formerly known as Union Park, in Livermore Falls for a wreath-laying event at 9:40 a.m.
At 10 a.m., a service will be conducted at Jay War Memorial on Main Street in Chisholm.
Veterans will travel to Fayette to hold a service and wreath-laying at 10:20 a.m. at the Fayette Veterans Memorial.
In the Farmington area, American Legion Post 28 will hold a service at 11 a.m. at the World War I Memorial on Route 4 in Farmington. The post’s chaplain will say a prayer, and a wreath will be presented, Dennis Collins, commander of Post 28, said.
Veterans from the post will move on to the World War II Memorial at Meetinghouse Park in Farmington. That service is estimated to take place at 11:15 to 11:20 a.m., Collins said.
The Post 28 Ladies’ Auxiliary will have chicken stew available at the post hall at High and Middle streets in Farmington following the service.
In Wilton, a Veterans Day service will be held at 9 a.m. at the downtown monument.
A Veterans Day program is also scheduled at 12:30 p.m. at Walmart in Farmington.
