RANGELEY — St. Nicholas will arrive here Sunday for the annual Senior Thanksgiving Dinner sponsored by the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd.
The free dinner will be served to seniors from noon until the food is gone. Community donations supply the traditional feast, which is designed as a time of ecumenical sharing and socializing. The Rev. Jud Pealer invites seniors to attend.
The church has hosted the dinner for more than 25 years. An all-volunteer cast of helpers includes Shirley Herbert, chef at the Senior Housing Complex, Ivy Berry, vestry member at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Lincoln Libby, who started out as a volunteer in the kitchen in 1991 and returns here every year to help, and many other volunteers. Traditionally high school students serve the seniors.
This year, Santa will join the fun. Parents and children may visit with him at 1 p.m. in the undercroft of the church. There will be a photo opportunity with him as well.
Rob Hoffman of Rangeley will take the role of Santa. After his Rangeley appearance, the retired American Airlines pilot will travel to Washington, D.C., where he’ll be Santa in Presidents’ Park from Dec. 6-24.
