- In an effort to locate and identify Maine’s World War II veterans for the purpose of sending them to Washington, D.C. to view their war memorials, Lisa Villa, chairwoman of Honor Flight Maine, accepts an application from Franklin Flanders, 92, who served in the Army PFC. Flanders served as an orderly in a hospital in the Philippines and demolition duty in Japan. Upon his return he worked as his father’s sawmill, who then donated all the lumber and building material for the Norway VFW-Odd Fellows Lodge. Flanders has been a member for 73 years.
